About the event

In a meeting held on 22 Oct, 2021, the findings of the SSHRC Urban Best Management Project being conducted at the Johnson Shoyama Graduate School of Public Policy, University of Regina, were presented to WUQWATR, the Wascana & Upper Qu’Appelle Watersheds Association. WUQWATR is a non-profit organization with a focus on promoting watershed stewardship through programming, communications, and initiatives to help protect our surface and ground waters. WUQWATR delivers programming to landowners and municipalities within our watersheds. Our partners include the Water Security Agency, ALUS Canada, the Saskatchewan Association of Watersheds (SAW), and various other Saskatchewan agencies and watershed groups. It works to promote source water protection, agricultural water management, flood and drought preparedness, and climate change initiatives.

The 5 year project is now in its third year and has 13 case studies, spread across SK municipalities documenting best management practices in water governance and climate adaptation in Phase 1. Phase 2 monitors the BMPs based on theoretical frameworks for adaptive governance, nature based solutions, techno-financial analysis, water quality and climate models and how they contribute to adaptive capacities of communities.
